Income Tax Organizer for 2007 tax returns

IRS Rebate Rules

Recently one of my tax clients who is an IRS employee was in the office and we discuss the IRS Rebate Rules.  As a matter of information there are many IRS employees that are not directly involved in tax filing or compliance and if they have complicated tax returns with outside income, investments etc want a Tax Profession to work with them on there tax return because as an employee of the IRS they can not afford to have any problems with there tax return.

The IRS wants tax returns filed by April 15, 2008.   The reason is that will get money into the system sooner and stimulate the economy.   Many can not file by April 15 for a number of reason.  Those returns filed after April 15 will receive a payment but at a later date.

Everyone who wants a refund must file. At this time it looks like a short form 1040A will work showing they have at least $3,000 in qualifying income. It appears that Social Security, dividends, interest and other retirement income will qualify as qualifying income.

Under this plan individuals and families are eligible to receive up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples.

The rebates will go to everyone with an adjusted gross income of less than $75,000 for singles or less than $150,00 for couples.  A phase out for taxpayers with income over $150,00 is part of the program.

The rebates are considered a one-time economic-stimulus payment.

I will provide more information as it is available.
